Fiber-Span, the established leader in fiber-optic RF ON FIBER© products, announced today that it has received a follow-on contract order for Fiber Optic Radio Repeater systems from the Taiwan Railroad Authority. This order represents the next phase for the Authority to complete a critical public safety communications system. The Fiber Optic Repeater system distributes Radio capacity from TETRA (Trunked Terrestrial Radio) base stations to more than 60 tunnels over a distance greater than 160 kilometers in a railway system.

Radio signals are directly tapped from a base station are split and delivered to front end Fiber Optic Transceivers (FTU) using a base station tap (BSU) interface. The FTU is connected the Optical Remote Transceivers (ORU) via fiber optic cables into the tunnel areas. The ORU Fiber Optic Transceivers are connected to radiating coaxial cable along the length of the tunnels to provide continuous radio coverage.

Fiber-Span’s Fiber Optic Repeater system utilizes proven fiber optic and RF technology to provide reliable and cost effective RF signal distribution. Fiber-Span’s newly launched fiber-fed BDA product line is an alternative to older, standard RF only BDA systems.
