RF ON FIBERSignal Distribution Products for In-Building Coverage Extension Applications
June 28, 2006
Fiber-Span’s FS31RC is a family of compact Fiber Optic Repeaters that address the wireless industry’s need for In-building DAS (Distributed Antenna Systems) with higher RF output power and more functionality at an affordable price. The FS31RC is an In-building Remote Fiber Optic Repeater Unit (RRU) that provides superior RF and Optical performance. It delivers on the promise of lower In-building RF DAS (Distributed Antenna Systems) implementation costs, lower operational costs and lower support costs through designed-in reliability and quality.

Application
This UHF product is ideal for In-building RF DAS (Distributed Antenna Systems) applications requiring RF coverage extension into areas ranging from 50,000 to 100,000 square feet. Featuring separate Uplink and Downlink RF ports, this fiber optic repeater can be used as either a broadband device covering the entire 380-512 MHz spectrum, or as a band-specific device when used in conjunction with an external duplexer. Up to 32 RRU’s Remote Fiber Optic Repeater Units) can be deployed to create a reliable In-building wireless communications service area of 1,000,000+ square feet. The FS31RC family of products can be successfully implemented for both in-building RF DAS (Distributed Antenna Systems) and campus wide environments.
Headend requirements
The Fiber Transceiver Unit (FTU) is located in the Headend and designed to interface directly with and RF Base Station equipment or off-air Bi-Directional Amplifier(s) with separated transmit and receive ports. A single-pair of single-mode fiber (9-125 SMF) fiber optic cable is required between each RRU (Remote Fiber Optic Repeater Unit) and the FTU (Fiber Transceiver Unit). If fiber strands are at a premium, a Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) option is available and allows bi-directional operation over only one strand of fiber. The FTU can be configured to support up to 32 remote fiber optic repeaters (RRU’s). If signal conditioning is required to create an interface between the FTU (Fiber Transceiver Unit) and donor equipment, Fiber-Span’s RF Base Station Interface Unit (BSU) can be configured to support most applications, such as In-building DAS (Distributed Antenna Systems). Consult the factory for information on BSU selection.
Alarms Monitoring Over fiber
Each RRU (Remote Fiber Optic Repeater Unit) comes standard with a local fault monitoring relay and an integrated alarm feature. A summary fault condition is sent via fiber to the head-end FTU (Fiber Transceiver Unit) where the fault can be monitored by a non-proprietary Fiber-Span alarms concentrator or other third party product of your preference. The RRU (Remote Fiber Optic Repeater Unit) has an optional “Control” feature to allow the control of the RRU (Remote Fiber Optic Repeater Unit) from a remote location. Up to four (4) discrete alarm conditions can be monitored. For additional information please contact us.
