Fiber-Span, the established leader in fiber-optic RF ON FIBER products, announced its new line of Fiber Optic Repeater products at this year’s International Wireless Communications Expo (IWCE) show in Las Vegas, NV. Fiber-Span’s new Fiber Optic Repeater products provide highly reliable in-building coverage enhancement for Public Safety applications over a fiber optic cable Distributed Antenna System (DAS). These optical repeaters have many of the same features found in Bi-directional Amplifiers (BDA), or Signal Booster devices, with the major difference being that optical repeaters have integrated fiber optic converters.

Fiber-Span’s proprietary RF ON FIBER® technology is a cost-effective alternative to conventional DAS systems. RF over fiber technology for in-building applications has experienced tremendous growth over the past decade thanks to the consumer’s expectation of RF coverage everywhere, and for all services. Since RF signal attenuation over fiber cable is the same for 100 MHz as it is for 2000 MHz, and signal attenuation is extremely low in comparison to coax cable systems, RF on fiber technology is a popular choice among wireless services providers for multi-band/Multi-service applications. This increased demand for broadband fiber-fed BDA solutions in the commercial sector has resulted in lower production costs; thereby making the fiber optic DAS, or Fiber-Fed BDAs, a viable option for single-service and Public Safety coverage extension systems.

Fiber-Span currently offers Fiber Optic Repeaters for VHF, UHF, and 800/900 MHz frequency bands. Repeaters can be configured with short, medium, or long range lasers (1-12 miles), and with composite output powers from 1-20 Watts.
